Six-storey 392-home development in York set to get the green light
Plans for a major new development comprising 392 flats are being recommended for approval by City of York Council.
Two blocks of flats, ranging in height from four to six storeys, will be built on part of the former Heworth gasworks site under the proposals.
Moda Living’s build-to-rent scheme forms the final phase of the development of the site after detailed plans for more than 200 apartments were approved by councillors last year.

25 one-bed studio apartments (6%)
228 one-bed, two person apartments (58%)
121 two-bed apartments (31%)
18 three-bed apartments (5%).
The development would also include co-working space, a cinema room, gym and studio, games room and library.
A total of 95 car parking spaces would be provided, all with EV charging, along 392 cycle storage spaces and landscaped gardens.
‘Not enough trees’
The Guildhall Planning panel said there ought to be more trees to screen the development. But in a report to a planning committee, council officers say: “In respect of the comment from Guildhall Planning Panel regarding tree planting on the south side of the site, officers are content the proposed planting is sufficient.
“The planting stock is quite large (up to 5m high) so will make a reasonably good immediate impression.”
Officers are recommending to a planning committee meeting on Thursday 3 November that the development is approved.
If it gets the go-ahead, work could start early next year.
North Star and Heworth Green developments were granted permission to build 215 homes and a new neighbourhood park on the site last November.
